To help you get the most out of your training and keep the environment safe and respectful for everyone, here are some important guidelines and expectations:
General Standards

Gear;
- Gi Classes: Clean gi, belt, and rash guard recommended
- No Gi Classes: Athletic wear such as a rash guard or tight fitting shirt and shorts with no pockets or zippers
- Footwear: Flip flops or slides are required off the mats such as in the bathroom or lobby
- Water Bottle: Stay hydrated and bring one with you
- Safety and Cleanliness No jewelry, watches, or accessories on the mats
- Nails on hands and feet should be trimmed and clean
- Come to class clean as good hygiene is mandatory
- Use deodorant and maintain overall cleanliness
- If you are sick or have any skin issues, please sit out and let a coach know
- Cover any minor cuts or scrapes before training
Mat Etiquette and Conduct:
- Be respectful to teammates and coaches at all times
- Train with control and protect your partner as much as yourself
- Leave ego at the door as we are here to improve, not prove
- Tap early and often and respect the tap immediately
- Be a good training partner as everyone is responsible for the room’s culture
- Keep language respectful and appropriate for all ages
- Be aware of your surroundings and avoid rolling into other groups
Class Expectations:
- Arrive on time and ready to train
- If you are late, wait for an appropriate time to join and acknowledge the coach
- Stay for the full class when possible
- Pay attention during instruction and avoid side conversations
- Ask questions at the right time and stay engaged
- Line up or organize as directed at the beginning and end of class
Training Standards:
- Match intensity with your partner and communicate clearly
- Higher belts help guide lower belts with patience and control
- Lower belts respect the experience of higher belts and remain open to learning
- No coaching others during live rounds unless you are asked or instructed to do so
- Take care of your body and train smart to avoid unnecessary injuries
Facility Respect:
- Keep the mats and facility clean
- Pick up after yourself including tape, bottles, and personal items
- Do not bring food or drinks onto the mats
- Report any damage or cleanliness issues to a coach
- Respect all shared spaces including bathrooms and changing areas
What Coaches Expect From Students:
- Consistency and effort
- Willingness to learn and accept feedback
- A positive attitude and respect for the team
- Accountability for your own safety and your partner’s
- Represent the gym well both inside and outside of training
What You Can Expect From Coaches:
- A safe, structured, and welcoming environment
- Clear instruction and guidance at all levels

- Support in your individual goals
- Fair and consistent standards for all students
Communication and Attendance:
- Let a coach know if you will be out for an extended period
- Communicate any injuries before class begins
- Reach out if you have questions about classes or training
- Be honest about your experience level and limitations
If You Need to Report An Incident: Your safety and comfort matter. If anything ever feels off, whether it is an injury concern, inappropriate behavior, or anything else, please speak directly with a coach as soon as possible. You can also reach out privately if needed. All concerns are taken seriously and handled with respect and discretion.
